Music Festivals: Costume Ideas

Thanks to celebrities dressing up and more festivals encouraging attendees to don creative outfits, fancy dress is the new chic for the summer season. With fancy dress parades and competitions celebrating all things outlandish, festival-goers will find they fit right in when dressing up as famous figures, rather 00004000 than feeling out of place.

If you're heading to events such as Bestival, which is renowned for fancy dress among the performers and audience alike, you can fortunately find details of the annual theme far in advance to make sure you get your costume sorted in time. After last year's successful 'space oddity' theme saw Lily Allen and others dressing in costumes that were out of this world, this year's theme is fantasy - meaning guests could get away with anything from fairy costumes to famous Disney characters.

Disney is still a favourite inspiration when it comes to people choosing their extravagant look for fancy dress events, especially with celebrities like Paris Hilton dressing as Alice in Wonderland for Halloween. Whether it's a timeless favourite like Snow White or a fresher face like , these recognisable characters are always a hit.

Celebrities don't just provide inspiration for fantasy costume ideas either, as many have become iconic fancy dress images themselves. From music legends like Jimi Hendrix to fresh faces like Lady Gaga, fancy dress can be a way to raise a laugh or for fans to celebrate their heroes. That's especially the case at music events held in honour of the stars, such as the tribute parties held for the late Michael Jackson, which were attended by many fans wearing full Jackson costumes or even just the trademark white glove to show their dedication.

Dressing up as a music legend is especially appropriate at festivals, of course, whether the celebrity you're imitating is playing at the event or even if you just want to display your music taste. Even if you're not looking to go all the way with a full costume, fancy dress accessories like wigs or Australian cork hats are always a winner among people looking to embrace the lively atmosphere.

It's not just new arrivals on the festival scene that embrace fancy dress either, with old favourite Glastonbury attracting legions of new fans each summer who have their own ideas about celebrating, even arranging special fancy dress meet-ups. Without a dedicated theme, it seems anything goes at these celebrations, meaning fancy dress costumes lovers can be as inventive as they like.

He loves all three, the spongebob one is kind of cheesy, but he isnt really good with stuff on his head. There was another at kmart, it was a slice of pizza, but , is that alot for somethign they are just going to wear once? I kind of think it is.
I am only taking my 2 1/2 year old this year. I dought HE will ever wear it again. My youngest may though.

    • ANSWER:
Well, I got my daughter's costume at a discount store for , but I dont' think I would spend on something that will be worn 1 MAYBE 2 times...seems kinda wasteful to me, but we are struggling with money right now. If you can afford it go for it, you can always sell it and some of your money back.

BTW: I LOVE the Buzz costume..I guess if he refused to wear the head piece, it's still cute and you could still tell what he is supposed to be!

  2. QUESTION:
Halloween... Yes, it's been asked, whatever, I'm asking it again.?
What do your kiddos want to be for Halloween? How old are they?

When did you start letting your child decide what they wanted to dress up as? My son will be three years old on Halloween (yep, that's his b-day)... And he keeps telling me that he wants to be Spiderman... And Buzz Lightyear... And Lightning McQueen... And a Dinosaur. How do I break it to the kid that I'm NOT buying four costumes and doing costume changing in between visiting houses for trick or treating? LOL

    • ANSWER:
Adam will be 2 years, 10 months. I am actually in a pickle deciding his costume, because I am due 10/17. My husband says we should just draw a scar on his forehead and put him in a sweater and tie since he already has the mop of dark hair and glasses to make a good Harry Potter. This seems like a cute idea but he has no idea who Harry Potter is. I can't put him in any costume that goes around the face or has a hood because it knocks his glasses around and he is very protective of his glasses! I am thinking maybe a fireman.
I am also thinking of how freaking cute it would be to dress up my 2week old girl for halloween. I have seen those little outfits were they are a pepper or chicita banana.

  3. QUESTION:
Hypothetical question about Halloween, siblings, and costumes?
If 2 of your children wanted to be the same thing for Halloween, would you encourage one to dress differently or just go with it?

Say it was Buzz Lightyear... Would trying to encourage one of them to be Woody be cheesy?
I know they (or at least my 5 y/o) will probably change his mind many times between now and then, that's why I'm hypothetically speaking.

    • ANSWER:
I'd probably push Woody (Hey- I LIKE cheesy) but in the end let them both be Buzz if that's what they really wanted.

Luckily my daughter is 2, she's going to be trick or treating with my 4 year old nephew. They are still young enough that we can push Cheesy on them. I think they will be Peter Pan and Tinkerbell OR Woody and Little Bo Peep. There is also some talk about them being Mario and Princess Peach. We'll just have to see....I'll probably let my Nephew have some say in it though :)
