Mandy asks…

What should i do to get to an institute?

i am in the 8th grade and i want to be a nurse but i am in (ELD )english language Development and i am trying to get in to Weber Institute to get at least a little experience in the health program and i have a problem in getting early in my first period class and i am having problems in math what should i do to shape up

andre1 answers:

Well, unfortunately, you are too young to start any program or get any job experience, but it is good that you are thinking ahead. Don't worry too much, nobody is going to have any issues with the fact that you did not do well in 8th grade Math. Make sure you do well in the 9th grade and beyond.

If I can make one recommendation, talk to your school counselor, math teacher, or principal to see if you can be paired up with a Math tutor either in your class or somewhere at your school. That might help you out.

David asks…

I really need help with my essay on class inequalities in contemporary Britain...?

The essay task is - Using the theories of Marx and Weber, critically examine whether class inequalities in contemporary Britain have been reduced?

I just really need a brief outline plan or something to get me started, i'm really stumped. This is my first essay for this year so i don't really want to mess it up..

Thanks for any help :)

andre1 answers:

You should probably open with what defines 'class' in Britain and the basics of Marx and Weber's opinions on class.
You should include religion, education and family.
Marxist views focus on the lower 'working class' which they call the proletariat being oppressed by the upper class or bourgeoisie who were the ruling class.
In religion he argues that the ruling class preach a false class consciousness through religion which compensates for workers suffering in everyday life. As these workers are socialized through education, religion and family not to question, they do not, So their belief that if they work well and suffer in life the will be rewarded in death, continues generation to generation.
You should include that Marx believes this needs to be abolished before classes can become equal.

You should use examples of contemporary studies and relate to Weber's work on the protestant ethic. It would also be good to use criticisms of Marx ideas. (:
Hope some of that will be of use. :D

Betty asks…

What is the magnetic flux of Earth's magnetic field in webers?

first person with a good answer gets 10 points.

andre1 answers:

The magnetic quantity B which is being called "magnetic field" is sometimes called "magnetic flux density". An older unit name for the Tesla is Webers per meter squared, with the Weber being the unit of magnetic flux.

Since the earth's field varies but is about 0.3- 0.6 gauss

1 T = 10,000 G

and

1 T = 1 W/m^2

So

1 W/m^2 = 10,000 G

The units are going to be different. You would have to get it in Webers/m^2 NOT simply Webers

Mag field Strength = 0.3 x 10^-4 W/m2 to 0.6 x 10^-4 W/m2

Magnetic flux is B dot A

Hope this helps and I can get 5 stars

if u've studied human institutions (sociology) do u know any of these answers??

4.In looking at institutions through the lens of World Systems, we discussed terms like core, semi-periphery, periphery, hegemons, and cycles of hegemonic rivalry. Can you define what they are and how they relate to one another? How do they relate to the institutions we’ve studied? Who were some of the hegemonic countries we discussed?
5.What is the QWERTY effect (path dependence)? What is the history of European sugar production and what does it tell us about path dependence, institutions, and stratification?
7.What does Bellah mean by a “civil religion”?
The first involved Weber’s “Switchman” metaphor; the other was the Secularization Thesis. Be able to discuss:
A.The role of materialism and idealism in both
B.Weber’s Switchman metaphor- the historical process he described; including the meaning (definition) and relationship of predestination, asceticism, and the “Switchman” to capitalism; which institutions are involved; and how this example illustrates institutional iinte

Steven asks…

Got a new Weber Performer. It uses a small propane tank. Can I leave the tank connected when I'm not using it?

This is my first time dealing with propane. The smaller disposable tank connects to the ignitor that my grill uses to light the charcoal. Do I need to unhook the tank after I'm done grilling, or is it okay to leave it connected, just be sure the knob is turned all the way off?

I'm just worried about a possible fire. Any safety advice you can give me would be very helpful.

I'm using it for the first time tonight, can't wait to try it out!

I wouldn't... I'd always keep the valve shut when not in use at the very least. Wait for more answers for a clearer pitcher

Donald asks…

Would you invest $2,500 to get a 1920 Weber 6ft. Grand Piano?

Orginally it was going to be a private sale from an estate, $1200 was the asking price. After my tuner came out and said it had a cracked pin board, she said I could have it for free as long as I fixed it up. The case is in good shape, as is the action, expect for a few stuck dampers. For $2,500 my piano rebuilder is willing to install a new pin board, strings, refinsh the sound board (no cracks), and harp, and clean up the action and moving first to the rebuilders, and then to my home. For $400 more he will regulate the action. This guy is well respected, and has had a piano shop for 40 years. The refinishing is being done by one of the great shops and is being done as a favor. Would you spend the money and look for someting else?

No

Michael asks…

why do you think people cheat on their significant others?

i ask this because: last night I went to a "get together"(ok a book club mtg about Carl Weber's book "the first lady") at one of my (female) friends house. One of her friends (we will call her Susie) burst out into tears in the middle if the meeting saying "I just found out my husband was cheating on me" well my friend and I was trying to comfort her she goes "why would I listen to you 2, no man is going to cheat on you guys" how stupid is that? I have been cheated on in the past and so had my friend (who I must say got really offended by this...she went off on the girl "i am trying to help you out and you...!!!) but anyhow...I said looks have nothing to do with why people cheat, maybe he was bored, weak.....well anyway what do you guys think?
yes Jake I am black, LOL
iamal...what does race have to do with cheating, people of different races have affairs-you sound like an idiot-GEEZ!

Ruth asks…

How does this first chapter sound to you?

Chris leant against the smooth brick, exhaling through his nose, his head tilted to the sky. He breathed in. Smoke and air. Smoke and air. The air cleared his head and the smoke filtered through his lungs, calming his nerves.

He liked how the smoke was carried up into the sky until he couldn’t see it anymore. The sky was typically neutral: grey and shrouded with clouds.

1:50pm, last period. Biology. He’d been called into Mrs Weber’s office on countless occasions, long lectures about how she could not understand why he was missing out on his best subject. He’d told her to fuck off and he was suspended for a week.

People who stuck their nose in where it wasn’t wanted pissed him off. He had this problem: if someone told him to do something he’d tell them to go screw themselves, regardless of whether it was something he actually wanted to do. Plus, he shared Biology with a couple of people he did not want to run into again.

The smoke sank into his lungs, a temporary relief.

‘Mind if I join you?’ the sudden noise made him jump, but he nodded grimly, recognising the voice as someone unlikely to beat him up.

She dropped her back to the floor and sat on it. Typical girl, he smirked. It wasn’t even raining.

‘You know you shouldn’t smoke. It’s bad for you.’ He turned to glare at her. She held up her hands like there was a gun to her head. ‘Alright, alright, I’ll shut up.’ There was silence as she watched him take another gulp of smoke, then, ‘Got a spare?’

He smirked. ‘Hypocrite,’ but extended the box. The company felt nice, even if it was Chloe Benson, the freak no one talked to. Because Chloe was weird, there was no doubt about it. Kept her head down, talked to no one. Trying not to draw attention, he supposed.

‘Ta.’

He watched as she held the cancer stick between her fingers and lit it, giving her face a warm glow. A car alarm blared in the distance, but it was a sound that Chris had zoned out to. She inhaled, the frown lines between her nose and forehead smoothing out.

‘Didn’t think you were the kind of guy to hang around behind a gym,’ she said conversationally between drags, pushing the straggly black hair from her face. ‘Very stereotypical, don’t you think.’

Chris scowled. He was starting to regret letting her sit with him – there were moments that didn’t require any noise. ‘That’s a big word from someone in the Disadvantaged Programme,’ he hissed irritably.

She didn’t reply, and took a deep drag, as if the cigarette was connected to her and was the only thing keeping her stable. ‘Could say the same for your brother. He called me “fucked up tart” today. I don’t think he knows what it even means.’

‘Oh, trust me, I expect he’s just heard everyone saying it,’ he mumbled, but quietly, so that she couldn’t hear him.

Something had stirred in his stomach at the mention of his brother. He had this deep, aching fear that something bad would happen to him, because he was a stupid little fucker who did whatever anyone told him to. ‘So why exactly are you here?’ Shit, now he was doing it!

Chloe glared at him, as if he was the one that had started the whole conversation. ‘I’m not in the mood for class,’ she told him irritably, the cigarette hanging from her fingers, ‘I just need to be on my fucking own right now.’ She turned away, her greasy hair shielding her face like a dark veil.

‘Well it’s a good thing you came to sit with me then. Are you going to make me leave?’ He grinned, enjoying his moment of fun. Her face remained pale and pasty, the corners of her mouth drawn down. ‘What crawled up your ass and died?’ he demanded heatedly. This girl was seriously pissing him off.

‘None of your fucking business,’ she snapped, elbow propped up on her knees.

Chris muttered something along the lines of ‘Little ray of sunshine,’ under his breath and swung his bag over his shoulder.

‘Where are you going?’ she demanded, sounding panicked.

‘Not that it’s any of your business, but do you really expect me to hang around with you, even though trust me, you are a little delight to be around.’

‘I’m pregnant,’ she blurted out suddenly, her eyes bright and glassy.

His footsteps ground to a halt with a skid of rocks underneath his feet. ‘Shit. What’d you tell me that for?’ He didn’t like that this girl trusted him – she was a stupid slut, he decided. Real stupid.

‘Felt like.’ She shrugged and smiled at him grimly. He was under the impression that she had just blabbed to shock him into staying with her.

‘Hold on, I’m not the dad am I?’ He grinned.

‘Fuck off.’

He stared down at her stomach, hidden underneath her school blazer. It was flat at the moment, but there was life in there. It was a messed up thought.

****It is meant to sound a little ... gritty, if that's the right word. I've written so many first chapters to this. Tell me what you think. It is

It's just the right amount of everything, I think (and I'm not lying like all those other people), and your dialogue is well placed. Nothing feels like it's hanging off or isn't needed, and you use quite a lot of detail.

Two little edits, though. The dialogue should be in a ", not a '. And I'm not liking the ******. They seem a bit extra, and should only be used when there's high emotions. And it's not illegal to curse in a book, you know.

Well, I hope this helps, and may your writing go splendidly!

Lizzie asks…

Who was the first sociologist to record his theory's/work?

Who was the first person(sociologist) to write down his theory's/work. I believe its Max Weber but am not completely sure.
Im a college student at Cape Breton University. Im taking my bba and had to take antro/sociology as a elective. This question was on my mid-term. The 2nd answer is what I thought when writing the mid-term but we never studied this person and was not aware of her. Thanks for your answers I like to know what you belived it was before this answer was posted.

andre1 answers:

There is a lot of controversy about who the first sociologist was. For example RW Connell argues that most historical accounts of the development of sociology are more like 'creation myths' which privilege Western (or Northern) . Cultures.

1. Some name Comte (17 January 1798 – 5 September 1857) as he was the first to coin the term 'sociology'

2. Marx, Weber and Durkheim - were cited as the 'Founding Fathers' in many of the sociological theory texts after the 1960s (with Marx 's mid 19th century work preceding the late 19th and early 20th century work of Durkheim and Weber)

3.In 1896 Giddings, the first professor of sociology at Columbia University, named Adam Smith ( 1723 – 1790)

4.. However, many sociology texts today point to Kalduhn (1332-1406) as one of the first to apply a 'scientific' .approach of his own society.
Nb as any sociology involves a critical survey of how their society operates he paid a severe price for his scholarship

5. Connell, herself, points out that the artwork (existing centuriess before Cook landed in the 18th century) of the indigenous peoples' of Australia is a well developed mode of representing social relations social boundaries even social conflicts'

6. ... ... ...and this fits with the alternative view that it's not possible to isolate just one individual.
E.g.by Charles Letourneau (1881) cited in Connell
'the commencement of any science however simple is always a collective work. It requires the constant labour of many patient workmen

So take your pick

Donna asks…

Output First Letter of any Last Name followed by the number of characters in their last name?

I wasn't able to add up these two data types because they are not the same.
How can I COUT first letter of a "last name" followed by the "number of characters" in their last name. For example: if CIN last name is: "Weber", then COUT is: "W5".
I tried:

string last;
string m = last.substr(0, 1) + last.length()

I think it didn't work because last.sub...is a string and last.length is an integer..
Anyone can give me the right solution?

andre1 answers:

Don't make the string m, just cout the results.

Cout << last.substr(0, 1) << last.length();

If you wanted to make the int a string, you could try this function.

String intToString(int n)
{
ostringstream ss; // You need to include sstream for this.
Ss << n;
return ss.str();
}

and call it like this.

String m = last.substr(0, 1) + intToString( last.length() );

What to expect when having an angiogram and possible stent put in?

ok im 16 and i have had like 50 other surgeries literally(i have lots of health problems from my sturge-weber) and i would like to know what this suregery is going to be like , how long the recovery is.....my doc said i have to stay over night in the hospital...maybe i should explain my situation first....well my doctor wanted to know why i have highblood pressure since they never really found out from what when i was a baby they just assumed that my birthmark(sturge-weber) covered my kidneys and that was why i had the high blood pressure so he decided to do bloodtesting and a MRA for it and found that one of my kidneys was waaaay smaller than the other(i even seen it) and that both the arteries going into each of my kidneys had something wrong with them (one was all blocked up and big and the other was really small) so he said i was going to have an angiogram under local anasthetic(srry cant spell lol) and a possible and more than like likely a stent or stint put in.is this gona hurt?
he said that if i dont do this now that my kidneys would completely fail(because basically they are failing now)
Also....do u think its possible to still be in a dance for something at school or will i not be able to practice that week or at all for a while?

andre1 answers:

An angiogram is when a catheter is placed into a blood vessel to inject a radioopaque dye so that the blood vessel may be seen on xray. When a patient has an angiogram, he or she is given some medicine for sedation (for relaxation and pain control). Once the patient is sleepy, a bladder catheter (Foley) is placed so the patient's urine output can be monitored closely. After that the doctor places a needle through your skin into an artery in your groin which allows him or her to direct a guidewire into your aorta (the body's main artery) and advance it into the blood vessel that needs to be studied. At that point, the doctor can inject dye into the blood vessel of interest and if there is a narrowing of the blood vessel, he or show can do a couple of things. One thing is called angioplasty. This is when a balloon is expanded in the artery to open it up. Another thing which is done after angioplasty is placing a stent. A stent is a wire mesh in the shape of the blood vessel which helps keep it open. After the angiogram/angioplasty/stent, the patient is taken to a recovery room (much like after surgery). If the catheter in your blood vessel was not removed in the room where the xrays were taken, it is removed in the recovery room. After the catheter is removed from your blood vessel, you have to lay in bed for up to six hours to prevent bleeding. Since you'll be in bed for up to six hours after your angiogram, you'll still have the catheter in your bladder. After the six hours, you can usually get up and your bladder catheter can be removed. Sometimes you get some bruising and bleeding from the puncture site but usually not. Most of the time you'll just have a small bandage (2"x2") at the puncture site. If you have a stent placed, you'll stay overnight for monitoring (they'll check your labs the next morning and make sure you're making enough urine, etc). It is usually not too painful because the puncture site is small (less than 1cm). Usually you can go back to school or work in a , but everyone is different so some people take longer to recover.

Relationship between Max Weber and Talcott Parsons!??!?!?

First TEEN SEX Ever advice?

I'm 17 and so is my amazing boyfriend weber been together for a year and a half I love this boy to death and he's not one of those boyfriends that pressure you into anything but we've been talking about sex lately and I want to have sex with him really bad but I have no clue on how to go about this? Do we just take off our bottoms and what position would be best for 1st timers and where should our sex happen? Noises? Were using all types if protection condoms and birth control. NO STUPID ANSWERS

andre1 answers:

In my opinion, I would wait on sex until you feel comfortable doing it with whomever your with at the time.

Whether you decide to follow what I just said is completely up to you.

How do you go about it for your first time?;
Typically the guy is usually on top if its your first time. Yes your bottoms come off, but what else comes off depends on what your comfortable with. If its your first time, do it in a place your comfortable with. Not a random parking lot inside a car, more than likely somewhere your not afraid of anyone walking in, hearing anything, and somewhere that has comfortable furniture [IE: a bed].
Noises should come natural. If you feel they are needed you can add them, but they arent needed to make the moment. They certainly enhance the moment but arent necessary.

Overall, if you do decide to have sex now with this boy then atleast your choice in protection is one of your smartest choices.

Decide what you ultimately want without his opinion being any factor.
