How do I make Firefox my default internet page?

I have and firefox and I usually work with firefox but when I open my messages with msn (hotmail) they automatically open with internet explorer. So basically, how do I get msn to open my inbox usinf firefox and not ie?

andre1 answers:

Unfortunately, if you're opening hotmail from within Windows Live Messenger (or MSN Messenger), making Firefox your default browser will not solve this. Messenger does not respect Windows default browser settings, and is "hard coded" to use IE.

Here is one possible solution, although it seems fairly complicated:

What's the difference between Internet Explorer and FireFox? Why do people say I should switch to FireFox?

Every time I call for tech support they tell me I should switch to FireFox! Even when it has nothing to do with the internet. What are the differences, I want specifics, not vague answers like: It's better or safer.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L355-S7817 Laptop.

andre1 answers:

Fire fox has better add-ons/plug-ins (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/), more customizable, less robust (smaller program - runs cleaner and quicker to install), and is less susceptible to spyware and viruses for starters. More malicious code is written for IE.

A couple of personal examples:

I was doing a online image map and could only do about individual coordinates before I would get a stacking error. I used fire fox and never had a problem.

I loaded an add-on that allows you to record youtube vids and mp3's right in the browser. IE does not have this (that I know of - tech changes so quickly). Fire fox has a lot of little fun attributes like this.

I appreciate how Fire Fox lists your bookmarks in the url bar as you are typing into it. IE does it also, but it doesn't display as much info as you are typing.

The people at Mozilla (Fire Fox) seem to respond to issues quicker than those at IE. When you do updates any problems are take care of.

I could keep going on with a list of things that are better than IE but I'm tired of typing. The type of laptop that you own doesn't really make a difference.

Oh and It's better and safer. :-)

In Firefox - How to open in new tab automatically when I click a bookmark?

In Firefox I normally use right-click > "Open in new tab" when browsing web pages. This can also be done when clicking on a bookmark.

Is there any way to get Firefox to do this automatically (by default) when left-clicking a bookmark instead of having to do the right click?

andre1 answers:

If you have a mouse with a scroll, click the scroll on the bookmark and it'll open it in a new tab =)

How can i start firefox with a message to restore the last session?

I used to have a pop-up message when i start firefox to restore last session but now it's gone. I need it in case i accidentally close something and i want to go back into it. Anybody know how to do it? Thanks.

andre1 answers:

You might want to check the box to warn you when closing multiple tabs (Options>Tabs tab). This will keep you from accidently closing FF.

To get the Restore Last Session/Start New Session option, Firefox must be forced to close without using the normal close options used.

It is best not to force a closure in Task Manager unless you are absolutely sure the process you are closing does not need to save or clean up any operation before being forced to close.

If you are going to close your Operating System anyway, just let FF stay open and do not respond to the multiple tabs box. Windows will shut down and, the next time you use FF, you will have the option to Restore or New session.

Maxthon and a few other browsers have this option built in to it. Maybe one day, FF will, too.

Whats the difference between firefox, google chrome, and ?

I've always had internet explorer and I never used anything else. What can google chrome and firefox do that internet explorer cant?

andre1 answers:

1) The ECMAScript interpreters are different. IE crawls on complex Javascript. Firefox is much faster. Chrome is faster still.

2) Firefox is much more secure than IE, handles popups better, etc.

3) IE renders sites differently than most other browsers. What this means is that if the person writing the site doesn't write special code for IE (many web developers don't), what you see in IE isn't what the developer wants you to see.

4) IE is more "in your face". If it hits code it can't handle it stops. If you have debugging enabled it pops up a debugging window. Firefox just ignores the error, makes any assumptions that appear logical, and carries on. Usually you don't even know that there's been an error.

5) If you want to add things to the browser, IE has a few add-ons. Firefox has thousands.

Download both Firefox and Chrome and see how they work.

How do I copy Firefox bookmarks between users on the same computer?

I created a new user, opened Firefox, and there are only the default bookmarks. There is an "import" function, but it only offers to import bookmarks. Is there any way to copy/import between users on the same machine?

andre1 answers:

If you have :
On the old user.
1 - Start--> Run
2 - Type Application Data and click OK.
Copy Mozilla folder.

On the new user
1 - do step 1
2 - delete Mozilla folder and paste the Mozilla from the Old user.

If you are using windows vista
Type AppData instead of Application Data and go to Roaming folder

How can I make firefox to prompt me for what to do with a file instead of automatically downloading?

Right now firefox automatically downloads an mp3 and opens it. I want it to prompt me with the dialog box so I can choose where to save it. I've looked in options->downloads->view and edit actions and there is nothing set there that I can change.

andre1 answers:

Tools > Options >
Content > Manage button.

Select mp3's and click the change action button.

What is a good firefox addon to save massive number of pictures on separated links?

I know there are lots of firefox addons that help manage saving pictures, but what I am specifically looking for is, one which can allow me to simply paste the picture link and it will download the picture from that link.
Reason being, the pictures I am saving is has their own individual link and NOT on the same page itself.
